Blog Post 3

The history of Cuba is vast and has a lot to be covered. The island was conquered in the year 1511 by the Spanish people and in the year 1898, the Spanish withdrew from the island, leaving it to be held by the Americans until they eventually gained their independence in 1902, after that the Americans left so Cuba could be totally free. Cuba was conquered once by the Spanish and has been settled twice, once by the Spanish and again by the Americans in 1898. As such, only those two groups of people have settled this island, after the Americans left in 1902 they Cuba was an independent country. Cuba's culture helps show its past and its lifetime through its food and culture, which are primarily influenced by both Spanish and African cultures. Cuba's history is something I found very interesting, especially hat it was only settled by the Americans for four years so Cuba could develop its own government and gain true independence as well as the fact that Cuban culture still honors the roots of its past.
