Cultural Connections

Costa Rica has a very rich and unique cultural background that is very interesting to explore. It is home to millions of people from different ethic groups. On the Caribbean coast, the port of Limon is a rich cultural area for the island, with very rich history and variety. As stated by the Virtual Caribbean Library, "many residents of the city of Limón – located on the eastern coast of the country – trace their roots to Italian, Jamaican and Chinese laborers who worked on a late nineteenth-century railroad project that connected San José to Puerto Limón" (VCL), the people of Costa Rica have a very diverse background that traces back to multiple different countries, as well as their cultures, which blend into their society today. While it is true that most people are more familiar with the cultural customs of Costa Rica's Spanish coast, the Caribbean Coast, especially Limon, has a very diverse and interesting cultural background that has led to its own modern day society.
